About This Experience

Almost every Great Ocean Road day tour drives the same direction and arrives at the Twelve Apostles in the middle of the afternoon, along with everyone else. This one runs the route in reverse — inland to Port Campbell first, then back along the coast — which puts you at the major lookouts once the coaches have left and with the sun behind you instead of in your lens.

The reverse order also buys time for stops the standard itinerary cannot reach. London Bridge is the clearest example: the arch that collapsed in 1990 and stranded two visitors on the far side until a helicopter lifted them off. It sits west of the Twelve Apostles, past the point where a clockwise tour has to turn around, so most day trips never show it to you.

There are three ways to book it, and the difference matters more than the price gap suggests. The Classic tour travels in a full-size air-conditioned coach. The Mid-Size option caps the group at 35. The Premium runs a Mercedes-Benz van with a maximum of 15 guests, includes Melbourne CBD pickup and departs at 8:00 AM rather than 7:00–7:30. Read the exclusions before you book. Lunch is not included — it is taken at an eatery beside the Great Ocean Road Wildlife Park — and neither is entry to the park itself, which is A$37 for adults and A$25 for children, paid on the day, with a koala photo experience another A$35 per person. The operator is also straight about the wildlife: sightings in the wild are typically from a distance, and the park is what it recommends for close-up encounters.
